| The first piece of test equipment that most electronic hobbyists buy is a multimeter. This is probably because it is one of the least expensive items & also, if you know how to use it properly, one of the most useful.
This book is primarily aimed at beginners & those of limited experience of electronics. Chapter 1 covers the basics of analogue & digital multimeters, discussing the relative merits & the limitations of the two types. In chapter 2 various methods of component checking are described, including tests for transistors, thyristors, resistors, capacitors & diodes. Circuit testing is covered in chapter 3, with subjects such as voltage, current & continuity checks being discussed.
In the main little or no previous knowledge or experience is assumed. Using these simple component & circuit testing techniques the reader should be able to confidently tackle servicing of most electronic projects. |
